Jayne Allen is a newly published author. It is unclear if this is her only published book, but as of right not it appears that way (This will soon change as the sequel to BGMDE is on its way!). She is amazing at the marking aspect of it, as it seems she is doing it on her own. Shout out to that Black Girl Magic.

Black Girls Must Die Exhausted follows the life of Tabitha Walker, a black woman in her thirties that discovers her maternal clock is ticking. As she struggles with actions steps for this new found information, she is also balancing living as a Black person and woman in today's American society.

I was super excited to read this novel. Maybe it was the beautiful cover art and maybe it was the title. But I should have taken heed - "Don't judge a book by its cover". Now, the book is in by no means bad. It may be the he amazing marketing but the book did not uphold to my expectations. But then again, I'm not sure what I expected.

The book did perfectly encompass the intersection of Blackness and Womanhood. The opening pages of the book puts us in the mind of Tabitha during a morning that causes anxiety due to her position as a Black person and a woman. This is a great read to bring to the beach or on vacation, and it is an amazing culmination of specific social commentaries.

Overall, I suggest it for a casual read. However, the read is pretty heavy at every turn. Even though the characters are super relatable, you have to remember that it's all about a woman dealing with race and infertility. As long as you keep that in the back of your hear throughout the read, you'll enjoy it.
